Fed up with those lecturers from Arts and Soci!
There are still lots of posters left, and other freebies, but Boss is not in favour with giving out freebies to the campus when all they care about are goodies and stuff, and they apparently don't give two hoots about RHW. He wants RHW to be known first, then we give away freebies. What I think is that if we don't give away freebies first and let the campus know about us, there is no need to establish corporate identity and 'brand recognition', since people already don't know and don't care about us. Plus, if we don't give away what our sponsors have given us, how are we going to answer our sponsors? I tried to bring this logic across last Monday during the meeting, but apparently he and the other boss had the same idea and thought it possible to establish the name of Heatwave without giving away freebies. After consolidating my prizes list and sent it to Boss, I started to take over from fay (jinfei) to call different organisations to enquire about some things regarding an MP who used to campaign for women's rights. Doing all this for our radio documentary on marital rape. In Singapore, it is not considered rape if a husband forces his wife into having sex with him. Shocking? Well, our documentary aims to present both sides of the argument on whether should marital rape be made illegal in Singapore. I think a woman has every right to refuse sex from her husband. We are doing on this topic as compared on our 'adaptation' of the movie 'A Walk To Remember' for our radio drama, this radio documentary takes a seemingly shorter time to complete, with the deadline and all. Don't wanna go further with small conflicts with project mates, but all I wanna do is to be proactive, that's all. We still need a sociologist to aid us for the research. The local organisation which has been campaigning against marital rape is one big faggot. Apparently, when my friend called the president of the organisation, she refused interviews with students as she claimed that students do not deliver what they promised, such as providing them with a copy of their project whenever they aided in these students' projects. My friend was of course pissed thoroughly. He was very supportive of this organisation in question, what with its recent campaigns against rapes, date rapes, marital rape, unequal women's working rights and etc. Talk about NATO (No Action, Talk Only). HA! Lots of communication happened before I took over, so I decided that I could let fay rest while i tried. So I was trying to make calls to Temasek Poly to enquire about the scoiology lecturer. Turns out that the lecturer was no longer serving in TP but the nice recep gave me a few extension numbers of other lecturer who could assist me. Unforch, he din pick up. Finally I thought of getting some expert from some prestigious uni that we could consult. I called the arts and soci ppl from my sis's alma mater and the nice Professor who picked up the phone gave me some numbers that I could call as these experts are experts in the area of Family and Marriages. I called these numbers. Guess what? After a long time of trying, both lecturers answered the calls, straightaway told me that it's impossible to do it cos they are plain busy and they don't have to do any sort of interview, said a fake, 'Thanks for calling and bye.' and hung up, refusing to let me utter a single 'bye'. WHAT IS THIS????? I had real high hopes of NUS. It disappointed me real bad by the attitude of those people. Really I think they really had no EQ and is just plain messed-up. I am very saddened. Then I called NTU, and after ten or so times of trying to contact the Head of Department of Humans Division of Sociology, another lecturer asked me to email her the details and she could get to me as soon as possible and promised she would do the follow-up. See the significant difference? Well after doing the contacting I had to leave to do my DCA project. I actually learnt that my fren wanted to go off early around evening to go for prayer gathering. As my temper was rising to that level, and plus my patience was running out, I smsed my fren if she could skip her prayer just for once? She replied that she's not going to compromise prayer for the project and revealed her shock that me, a Christian, had asked her to do such a thing. Hello. Such a thing? I was visibly hurt that she was stumbled and disappointed that I had such a request. But it's not as if I'm asking her to stop praying for a day. I was putting work as my priority and kinda expected her to do the same, lest we could not complete the project. To resolve, I apologised and promised I would reach home from school as soon as possible, and we could embark on the project at my place. I din mean to ask her not to go, I was just thinking that if we could not complete the project, then I'll have to prepare her for that request. Guess I phrased it in the wrong way. Who wouldn't miscom in an sms? Well, the usually nice big sister-like Christian friend of mine, decided to help me out by volunteering to complete the project entirely on her own, and asked me to rest assured. I was thankful, and relieved to know that she wasn't that stumbled, and that she understands the workload i had, with managing uncaring NUS Sociology lecturers and Heatwave. What an eventful day, no? r. |
