And so it is... ... 2 interviews in 1 day
First interview- Company: Bang Public Relations Venue: Seng Kee Building At 10am, my dad drove me to Martin Rd, where the building is located. When I get to the company at 10th floor, I realised the door is shut, and the only way to get in is to wait for someone to get out of the office. Not knowing what to do and having 15 minutes on my side before 10am, I took the life up and down for while, and thank God when the lift door opens at the 10th floor, a guy opened the office door and was on his way to the Gents when he saw me and asked if I was looking for Crush Advertising, then I replied, 'Bang Public Relations', and he politely let me into the office and I waited for Doris, the administrator to come and meet me. As soon as we met, she led me to the attic to the conference room. I tell you, it's HUGE! The ceilings were very high and the conference room is so big! I truly felt peace while waiting for the interviewer. Monica, the MD, was away on an important meeting, and having postponed my interview for 2 weeks, she was quite sorry about it and had one of the PR consultants to interview me instead. My job scope is to come up with ideas and pitch to the clients about our rebranding ideas, for example, for Lancome for Singapore Fashion Festival, for Valuair, Yellowpages, etc. Well she said a lot of things and she finally gave me an assignment to assess my writing capabilities. I have to think of ideas to pitch to a healthcare group to request that Bang be the PR company for them. I have to type the ideas into one or two pages and email it back to them for them to assess my creativity, my ideas, and my writing style, to see if i'm suited to write. As a PR consultant, one of the job scope is to WRITE, be it press releases or email correspondences, so I have to be very good in writing, which I'm quite okay with as long as I'm not writing for newspapers or magazines, you get the drift. So I have to complete my assignment after my trip to Japan and email to her soon. After the interview, she wanted to make copies of my press releases. As we went down, she talked to me more about the company and introduced the office and her colleagues to me. I really love the working environment there!! Second interview: Company: A local MNC, which is doing very well and highly successful, energy industry Venue: Raffles Place It's at 2pm and the lady interviewed me. She told me that I have to write very VERY veRy very very well for this job as a Coporate Communications Assistant, be it newsletters, press releases, brochures, reports, etc. She said that a lot of people have contended for this job. The last candidate for the job was a mass commer (not sure which poly), and quit the job after 3 mths, citing that it's very stressful and fast-paced. So it's not easy afterall, and this she said. She told me as well that the company is looking for a person who can adapt well to fast-paced life as well as someone who can take on a highly stressful job. I tried to explain to her about my study environment and mentioned that I'm very used to fast-paced life as well as explain to her abt the difference btw my sch mass comm and other schools' mass comm. I've got to go for a written test on Wed after I return from Japan, and if I pass that test, I have to go for an interview with the head of Corporate Communications and if I pass that interview as well, I will be having an interview with the CEO/MD of the company. Pay is not so good. 1.2K-1.4K per month plus 5 months' bonus. But it doesn't matter, I'm not looking for the pay, I'm looking at the prospects and where I want to be in 3 yrs' time. So at the end of the interview, the interviewer remarked that I stand a very good chance of being chosen and I'm one of the better ones cos I',m articulate and outspoken, which is different from other mass commers. Should I be happy? Haha!! Working hours for Bang is 10am to 7.30pm daily, whereas the other is 8am to 6pm. Alt Saturdays are 8am to 12.30pm. So I'm afraid that it will affect my Constant Thing rehearsals. God! Pave a way for me!! In the meanwhile, I'm really excited for Japan!!! Can't wait to be there right now! Dun miss me guys!! =) brainstorming de rei. |
