Remember The Name
Fort Minor rAwX!!!! I really mean it! Splurged 140 bucks for the free standing tix for Fort Minor's concert last Wed. It's meant to be an accumulated birthday and Christmas present for Raymond. Never really been to a rock concert before. The closest I've been to was Shin's concert, and I'm not allowed to stand at my seat. So to be able to get free standing at a rock-hip hop concert is a BIG thing to me. Went with Pinch and her fren too, and though it's supposed to start at 8pm, the concert really went into full-swing at 830pm. As we were at the free standing area, it's really up to us where we wanna be. The set was simple, but it was just awesome to be soaked in the presence of the pre-rock concert crowd. Thank God the audience were a young bunch, and there were lots of adolescent Caucasian teenagers there, so there was more of joking and laughing, rather than hard-core rock fans who would push and shove their way. It was a HIGH when M. Shinoda came on with his band with the hit single, 'Remember the Name'. Almost everyone did the hand-bobbing movement in the usual hiphop, rock style and sang along with the chorus. It was 'cool dope' man! Then Shinoda noted that there were a huge amount of LP fans around too, so he did "In The End". You can imagine how the crowd went crazy as most of LP's fans are also FM's fans! Me and Raymond are also elated to hear Shinoda doing the rap for 'In The End'. FM went on to perform 'In Stereo', 'Petrified', 'Where'd You Go' feat. Jessea Thyidor (SG idol's finalist). The crowd sang along faithfully. The crowd was spontaneous but not crazy enough. It seems that there was something that capped them from really going crazy. Perhaps it's the security guards that were in our midst to make sure that people do not take out their lighters and wave around, and also to ensure that people do not pass out from the heat and the lack of oxygen in the free standing area. I did not go too crazy, as there was a kind of difficulty reconciliating the fact that I'm very much used to 'worship' and not 'rock'. It was a bit weird for me to jump and scream and shout, cos somehow I know that this music is not to praise God, but it's just for listening pleasure. So, yup, experienced a bit of cognitive dissonance here and there. Nevertheless, THE PERFORMANCE WAS GREAT!!! I heart M. Shinoda! Talking about concerts, I really wanna go for BEP's, Outkast, Machi, and David Tao's concerts if they were to come. Movin on to the routinal topic: Work This week was a crucial week for me. Am supposed to finish one episode per day for this week. Which means I have to finish 5 episodes this week. Quite a tall order. But the thing is, the only way for the company to confirm me within my probation period is for me to fulfill this requirement. No matter what, I need to finish them by Friday. So it was like so difficult, I don't know why, but the raw Eng subs totally infuriates me! Who in the world can give such poor English?? That I have to rephrase the whole sentence for every single line. Eventually, I managed to finish all 5 episodes, and that meant staying over till 9.30pm, skipping L-cell, just to finish off the last episode. I have no idea why am I the kind of person that gets affected by what I watch. Take Stairways to Heaven for example. I cry over sappy shows, not all, but those really tragic ones like STH, Summer Snow, etc. I also get affected by anime, unfortunately. The previous one which I did was so entertaining that I was laughing uncontrollably when I was editing subtitles for it. Not only I was laughing, my colleagues like Pinch and 'Tamami" also laughed like every 5 minutes or so. Wait till I get the VCD at half price then I shall lend it to you. The one that I did for 5 consecutive episodes is sooooo dark. It's about how a man exacts his revenge after 25 years. Think Count of Monte Cristo. Well, it's too deep a content for young audience. It tells of revenge, hate, violence and etc. And it's quite disturbing, considering some scenes which are not suitable for the young and the way they did the anime is quite like a 3D version, so you can see subtle images of skulls, and ghosts in the anime, accompanied by moans and groans as one of the victim was poisoned and starts hallucinating and went crazy. Need to pray to release all those disturbing images. Moving on to the happiest topic of my life for now: Goong (Korean word for 'Palace') Disclaimer: I'm not addicted to Kdramas! But Goong is just... different. It does not have your usual childhood sweetheart tio cancer or go blind that kind of stuff, but it's a love rectangle. HAHA. I was wondering if I was addicted to Goong, when I tried to think of my favourite episodes, and I don't have that excited and hyperventilating in me, which I used to. Instead I just thought that it was sweet for 2 people to be 'destined' together, and slowly getting used to each other's existence and then fall in love subsequently. Here's the story, if you really wanna sit through the next paragraph. In modern Korea, there's still the Imperial Palace with the King and his royal family. The Crown Prince has been arranged by his granddad, the previous King, to marry a peasant's granddaughter, as the peasant and him are great friends long time ago. Both the Crown Prince and the daughter were not born at that time. Unexpected tragedy struck and the King's eldest son, died in a car accident. As such, according to their Imperial rule, the family are no longer able to live in the palace. Both the intended Crown Prince, Lee Yul, and his mom had to live in England. Subsequently, the second son became the King's successor and his son, Lee Shin, becomes the Crown Prince. Zoom to 2006, the Crown Prince attends a public school and has a secret girlfriend, Hyo Rin. Everyone longs for the Crown Prince, like how people love Prince William of UK. One day, the royal family decides to marry off the Crown Prince to the designated peasant's daughter, who's the same age as him. The Crown Prince panicked and proposed to his secret girlfriend of 2 years to marry him. Hyo Rin rejected him as she wanted to continue her ballet career and doesn't want to be caged in the Palace all day. The proposal was overheard by a design student, Shin Chae Gyung who's really quirky (she wears her track pants underneath her skirt and designs her own shoes). The Crown Prince caught up with Chae Gyung and warned her not to leak the incident out to anyone. Chae Gyung was mad at him for being so rude and proud and everything and hates him to the core. Though a cheerful person with a bubbly personality, Chae Gyung's family was ridden with debts. Fastfwd the story, Chae Gyung happens to know that she's the one who's betrothed to the Crown Prince, as she has the heirloom that matches with Shin's heirloom. Wanting to help her family to get out of debts, Chae Gyung marries Shin in an awesome wedding of the century in Korea. Though modern Korea, but Chae Gyung needs to memorise all the books and the teachings in order to be trained as a respectable Crown Princess. She squabbles with Shin all day, as she cannot see eye to eye with the things that Shin does and he's always mean to her. Unknowingly she gradually likes Shin, but Shin still ponders over Hyo Rin. Hyo Rin regrets big-time for rejecting Shin and tries to win him back. This moment, Lee Yul returns and falls in love with Chae Gyung, knowing that she's Shin's wife and his original betrothed. This time, our Babo Shin (Silly Shin) falls in love with Chae Gyung without knowing and tries to hide his feelings for her. Well what's good about this show is that it doesn't have tragic moments, and watching Chae Gyung using SMS lingo to talk to the Empress (words like brb, see ya, kinda hard, etc), and her difficulties in memorising all the ceremonial wedding rituals that she had to write them on her arms to regurgitate it to the Palace tutor is hilarious! And how she cries for home every once in a while and hates Shin for caging her in the Palace is entertaining as well. Below are some of the Goong cast pics. Credits to: chaoticroseGoong cast: (from left: Hyo Rin, Yul, Chae Gyung, Shin) Hyo Rin (Song Ji Hyo)Shin (Joo Ji Hoon) Chae Gyung (Yoon Eun Hye) Yul ( Kim Jung Hoon) I have to say that I really like Yul in the earlier episodes, but I realise Shin's charm in the later episodes. =)Well, they are still showing Goong in Korea right now. Ep 17 is on wed and Ep 18 is on Thurs. Due to the overwhelming ratings, the PD decided to extend a season 2 of Goong, with only 4 more episodes, to do a proper wrap up. Considering that I only watched till Ep 13, I foresee more problems coming for the royal family, since Yul and his mom are back to claim the rightful throne. My favourite Korean drama! GOONG! n. |
